Hi I'm Thorunn Bacon, welcome to Your Lovely Bones

Your-lovely-bones is dedicated to  supporting women to improve  their bone health and strength  and reduce risk of bone density loss  and Osteoporosis during the menopause and beyond.

As if the menopause wasn't challenging enough, we women also start to lose bone density, muscle and bone strength from around the age of 40 and then that loss accelerates further in the menopause and beyond. The same thing happens in medically induced menopause. Menopause happens when our Oestrogen levels reduce and that drop in Oestrogen also causes our bones to become more porous and brittle, being at risk of developing Osteoporosis.

So while we’re going about our glamorous lives and making huge efforts to look our best, our bones are doing their own thing, wilfully ignoring that we look fabulously younger than our years, and in order to anti-age or age-proof our bones, we have to make serious effort in terms of life-style, exercises and nutrition, and we have to start now!  The rewards are immense, and not only will you be at lower risk of painful osteoporosis, fractures but you’re also less likely to develop a bent-over kyphotic posture as your posture and how you move and  carry yourself is the most anti-ageing thing of all.

What will Your-lovely-bones help you to do?

But what do I know? Quite a lot it turns out.

For nearly twenty five years I've worked with women of all ages as an Osteopath, Naturopath, Acupuncturist and Postural Stability Instructor.

I've come to deeply understand women's bodies, how they work and how they change through their natural transitions such as motherhood and menopause. I understand how women's bodies age and most importantly I understand what can be done to slow down the ageing process of our bones, muscles and tissues.

As a woman over fifty, I'm constantly reminded of changes within my own body, and I'm on a continuous quest to find ways to navigate those changes as positively as possible. We cannot reverse ageing, but we can make sure we age as well as is possible.

Just to tell you a bit about myself,  was born and raised in Iceland, but have lived and worked in the UK all my adult life. I now live on the East Anglia coast with my family and run Bacon and Associates Osteopaths and Physiotherapists  with my husband. We have a number of clinics around Essex in the UK and we have just celebrated 25 years of our business. I also worked in the NHS on a Spinal Pathway for many years.
I keep in close contact with my home country and I continue to look to Iceland for inspiration when it comes to healthy living and living in harmony with the environment.

I invite you to come along with me on a journey to improve your health and wellbeing that will carry you into your older years healthier, stronger and happier.
